The third week of August carries a positive energy, as some of the planets will be teaming up to help us create positive change in our lives. When looking at the overall astrological imprint of the days ahead, a very special planetary body calls our attention. Her name is Vesta, the brightest asteroid that can be seen with the naked eye.
In ancient Greece, Vesta was a beautiful virgin maiden who refused to marry powerful gods Apollo or Poseidon. In ancient Rome, Vesta was Saturn’s daughter and one of the three Vestal Virgins who were in charge of keeping the sacred burning fires that protected the city from strife. In turn, they were honored through their chastity. It’s important to note that the concept of virginity was not purely sexual, Vesta’s virginity is more about being whole onto herself and without needing a man (or anyone else) by her side.
In astrology, Vesta is one of the four Asteroid Goddesses that express different dimensions of our sexuality. In the birth chart, Vesta represents our fire within, what is most sacred to us, as well as how we express our spiritual devotion.
Vesta is currently in the spiritual territory of Pisces—and on Sunday, August 21st at 6:48 a.m. Pacific Time, she enters Aquarius while in retrograde motion. This rare movement impregnates the air with a strong desire to focus our energy on sacred devotion and ritual. Aquarius is the sign of individuality, and while this asteroid remains retrograde in this sign until October 5th, we get the opportunity to reconnect with practices and rituals that light our inner fire.
It’s also a good time to reawaken our own devotion to what’s most important to us and realize what we can do to be of service within our communities. After all, Aquarius is the sign of activism, so over the next few months, Vesta in Aquarius can help us channel some of our spiritual efforts into humanitarian actions as well as building social connections.
