Last month I finally heard what my veteran yoga teacher, Harijiwan has been saying for years. It's nothing religious, it's a technology that I was unaware of. I was sitting in his level 2 kundalini yoga training and he said that if we weren't playing mantras at night that we learned nothing in our level 1 training which took 8 months. I realized I hadn't taken this practice to heart and listened intently to why this seemingly insignificant technique was so important. Months before I had actually tried it out but as I came to find out, not all mantras are created equal. I had played a lullaby style mantra with a sweet voice with no real punch because I thought it would be soothing. The nightmares stopped but soon returned. It was not working and I had given up. My stress increased and the mantra box sat silent. But little did I know, there was a direct correlation between my increased stress and the lack of sound current regulating my subconscious thought forms at night.
He carefully explained to all of us seasoned yogis what we didn't yet grasp which was that any negative experience we had as children created subconscious thought forms that have a psychomagnetic energy. They are magnetic in that the ego constantly does a 'google search' in our present life to feed these thought forms. It's like they are a living thing that requires energy of the same resonance. This is what creates phobias, neurosis and conflict in relationships. We begin to respond to the thought forms instead of from our higher self. The body when it is sleeping is unguarded and so the subconcious thought forms run around in our brain like a game pushing buttons to stimulate the glands to secret and generate emotional responses. This is where nightmares come from. Our body then wakes up exhausted and we can get PTSD when we aren't even conscious. Our energy field is battered and we have more negative energy around us than when we went to sleep and we wonder why mishaps come to us!
Here's the short and skinny. I started playing a more macho mantra because of the navel connection and strength of the sound current which stimulates the hypothalmus and pituitary. Needless to say and scientific words aside, I wore headphones and only had two nightmares that first night when they slipped off two times. Night after I night, I continued to experiment with a mantra musician with a lower register and my waking life improved quickly! My energy and focus returned, my body's health improved quickly as well. The adrenal fatigue I was experiencing was coming from my sleep! I felt like I got my life back in a few days. These ancient Gurmukhi mantras must be pronounced correctly to cut the negative thought forms. As Harijiwan said, "you don't take a goat to Catalina. You take a boat!" I am so grateful this clicked and he pointed it out because I was really wondering why things seemed so hard.
I'm currently listening to Gurunam Singh who has many incredible albums on Spotify, iTunes or Spirit Voyage. I'm telling everyone to listen to mantras at night and you can also use www.infinitelooper.com with YouTube videos for free. Even if you feel silly, who cares? Why not experiment with it and see if things improve. The beginning of creation was sound right? In the beginning was the word and the word was with god. Our sound current is our connection to god and we can control energy with it.
We have an incredible Kundalini Yoga teacher, Aimee Bello on Monday nights at 7pm for just $10 at our Echo Park location if you'd like to experience working with these mantras. Aimee also has kundalini exercises and meditations on HOI.TV! You can also say a protective mantra three times around yourself and visualize it around your loved ones before bed and travelling in a car.
