Chiron Retrograde dates: July 15 to December 19
Healing: As the planetary body that relates to healing, Chiron has a special place in astrology. By its position in the birth chart, Chiron represents our deepest wounds, and the ability to turn that pain into healing. Known as the “Wounded Healer,” Chiron was named after the centaur in Greek mythology who was a healer and a teacher who, ironically, could not heal himself.
Chiron stuff runs deep, as it represents the deep sources of suffering and pain that we were born with, experienced either in childhood, or even in a past life. Depending on where it sits in our birth chart, Chiron is our soft spot; the part of us that feels wounded, sensitive, and vulnerable.
When Chiron goes retrograde, people and situations show up to remind us of our deeply ingrained insecurities and psychological hang-ups. However, at a deeper level, these are opportunities for us to revisit our pain and find the strength to rise above. When pain resurfaces, a radical act of self-love and self-care is to face it head-on! After all, Chiron is going retrograde in Aries, a fire sign that doesn’t hide from doing the work. Awareness and deep reflection are important as a way of not repeating the same mistakes we have in the past—whether they have been conscious or unconscious.
It’s important to note that Chiron’s retrograde influence will not be activated during this entire time. We will feel it the most as it stations retrograde (this week), when other planets are activating it, and when the Moon is in Aries, which happens once a month. Similarly, some zodiac signs will feel this more than others, which in this case are the cardinal signs: Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn. If you have any natal planets in any of these signs, you might be getting the call to do some deep, healing work during Chiron’s five-month retrograde transit.
So, how to do this? Healing Chiron as a form of self-love means focusing on past hurts that are hard to approach, talk about, and even remember. And while we can’t make some of them fully “go away,” by committing to healing and overcoming them, we turn them into dwells of inner strength and personal power.
Collectively, we are also being called to explore the barriers that prevent us from expressing our identity, as well as our individuality.
